What goals we aim to achieve through IIT JEE / NEET Preparation?
When we don’t have long term goals during JEE Mains, Advanced, NEET preparation every short term failure or obstacle seems like the end of journey. These obstacles or failures are the real tests in our preparation & those who learn from it & improve are the true winners.
IIT JEE / NEET preparation is not just about getting into your dream college or choosing your desired field of study, it is about your ‘Life’. It is because the end result of preparation has a massive impact on your life. If you get into premier institutes, your life will be one way, if you get into Tier 2, your life will be another way & so on. Hence goals during this preparation should be life oriented.
Framework to set long term goals
In this blog, I will tell you ‘How you can set long term goals during IIT JEE / NEET Preparation’
Definition of ‘Long Term’ varies from person to person but the timeline should be atleast 5 years. The longer it is better it would be because then you would be insulated from the short term hiccups.
Once these long term goals are frozen, then you can design your medium term & short term goals accordingly. Each short term goal will help you achieve your medium term goals & each medium term goal will help you achieve your long term goals.
I have come up with a framework to help you set long term goals during IIT JEE / NEET Preparation. This framework has 3 parts:
1. What change you want to bring in this world
For this you will have to decide what skills you want to develop & how to use these skills so that all life on this planet benefits from it. Because someone has rightly said “It doesn’t matter what talents you have, what you do with them is the question”.
2. What kind of people you want to associate with
Do you want to associate with people who are inspired, positive & focused towards their work or you are ok to work with average people who only do what is asked of them? Third category is people who don’t like to do even what that is asked of them.
3. How quickly you want to become financially free
Financial freedom means reaching a state where you no longer have to work for money. This is possible in 2 situations : a) When you have enough money for lifetime in bank account, b) When you have passive income which takes care of your survival & keeps improving with time even without your involvement.
I know it would be difficult for you to imagine the above things right now, but please try to understand them thoroughly. Do go through them once again. If you set long terms goals using the above framework, then it means you are thinking atleast for the next 20 years of your life.
For this medium term goals can be :
- Getting into premier institute in 1 – 2 years,
- Starting a company or taking a high paying job in next 5-6 years & so on.
Short term goals can be:
- Coming among top 10 in coaching in next 3 months
- Completing entire jee / neet syllabus in next 6 months
- Coming among top 200 in All India Test Series in next 7-8 months
- Revising entire jee / neet syllabus in next 3-4 months & so on.
Now take a sheet of paper & write down your ‘Long Term’, ‘Medium Term’ & ‘Short term’ Goals.
If you are facing challenge in achieving any of these goals, it’s better to stop & take help either from your teacher, parent, friends or a Success Coach. Success coach has lot of tools & techniques to help you achieve these goals. If you want to know more about it, you can set up a free 30 min call with me by clicking Here. If you are not willing to take help, then ponder upon that why you are not able to achieve your goals & come up with a solution yourself. Otherwise, nothing will change in your life which in turn leads to dis-satisfaction & lack of fulfilment.
